Family Falcons Fall To S.S. Seward In Class D Sectional Game
By Chris S. and Chris B.
A long awaited battle between archrivals S.S. Seward and The Family Foundation School finally commenced on October 29, 2008 in the Hudson Valley Sports Dome, the dome away from home.
During the teams’ last meeting at S.S. Seward, star striker Rafael S. injured his arm and left in the first half. Prior to the Section IX Class D championship questions remained unanswered.
After meeting with medical personnel prior to the game, Rafael received a padded brace to wrap around his cast, but still needed to get confirmation from the game officials. With little time left before the start of the game Rafael was cleared to play, bringing high hopes for the Falcons.
However, things didn’t turn out as planned and after a long winded battle the first half remained scoreless. As the battle continued Seward scored early in the second half changing the mindset of the game.
Seward’s defense remained almost flawless making it hard for Rafael and his offense to even the score. With time winding down, Falcons Coach Bill Musgrove changed his game plan by bringing captain of the defense, Pat C., up to mid-field.
Unfortunately for the Falcons, Seward capitalized on a thin defense giving them a 2-0 lead. The Falcons were unable to score as the whistle blew, officially giving Seward their sixth sectional championship in seven years.
