Admissions
In the month of November The Family Foundation School welcomed 15 new families. This has been the most enrollments all year.
Jeff Brain, Vice President of External Affairs and Acting Director of Admissions, visited The Caron Foundation in Wernersville, PA this month to meet with therapists and admission consultants to find out what’s new and what to improve on.
Also this month, Sid Parham, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Brain will be traveling to Baltimore, MD to the Independent Educational Consultant Association (IECA) conference, where they will meet with those who help refer students to school and colleges.
Middle States Update
The Middle States Planning Team has evaluated and approved most of the Action Plans for improvement that were created by the various Action Plan teams. The Action Plans focused on the areas for growth that The Family Foundation School will consecrate on in the next eight years: test score improvement in math, science, and writing; increased health, nutrition, and living skill knowledge; and an overall increase in service learning activities. The Planning Team will finish the Action Plan approval process by the end of November. Many of the Action Plans that were created will introduce some new and exciting programs and teaching methods in the coming years, so stay tuned!
Middle States Internal Coordinator, Jason Garnar, spent a week visiting Delbarton School, a private school in Morristown, NJ. He served on the Middle States Validation Team, conducted interviews with staff and students, and had an overall rewarding experience. Delbarton School is one of the top private schools in the United States, and Garnar is excited about implementing some of their educational techniques at The Family Foundation School. The same type of team he served on will visit FFS in mid February of 2009.
Maintenance
The maintenance department replaced the seclusion room doors and installed new handrails on both sides of all the staircases. By the end of the month, every dorm will have a pull station for fire alarms.
Athletic Department
November 21 started the season for both the girls’ and boys’ basketball teams. On December 10, the boys’ team will have a double header at home. Also, the FFS annual pep rally is in planning; the Athletic Department will be holding try-outs for the new school mascot. The new cheerleading squad is trying to get involved with state-wide competitions, and they are very excited about the upcoming season.
Student Government
Many ideas were brought up in the month of November by the Student Government. The graduating seniors are planning one last off-campus trip together before their commencement. Student Government is also planning a “Spirit Week,” including a pep rally for the basketball teams and cheerleaders as a way to boost school spirit.
