The Family Foundation School has redesigned its Grief and Loss Survivor group, and is now offering this grief support to students on a regular basis.

The group, formerly known as the Grief Group, is structured to give students a chance to give a voice to their losses, and to get support in dealing with them.

Jeff Brain, Vice President of External Affairs, is in charge of the group and has made several changes from its original form, including expanding the range of problems the group covers.

The original grief group only dealt with the loss of a parent through death.

The new group gives support to students who have lost parents and relatives to addiction, prisons, and medical problems.

The group is also no longer mandatory. “People can come and go as they need the group,” said Brain.

Andrew L., a student who lost his mother in February 2007, is a member of the group.

He said that the group has helped him to talk about his loss and replace it with something real and genuine.

“It helps me to see others who suffer from the same problem,” he said.

He encourages people to attend the group, and he says that it is definitely nice that the group is not mandatory, in line with the AA spirit of “attraction rather than promotion.”
