Tex Shumate

Tex has been involved with the school since 1979, but first started working at The Family Foundation School  in June 1998 and retired in October 2008. While Tex was at the school he made a very strong impression on the students because he has so much experience to share.

Tex started a group called Tex’s Tigers, similar to an anger management group. Because Tex had a way with angry students, it was very effective. The angry students were not the only students he could get through to; he could talk to the most irrational student and get him to seem “the big picture.”

After his first run working at the school, Shumate retired due to a knee injury. However, it was not his last contact with the school. He stayed very much in touch and always came back for graduations.

In December 2007, Tex decided to come back to work. He came back to spread the word to the newer students. He worked Fridays and Sundays in Family Four, the family he retired in.

When the layoffs came a few months ago, he retired once again so newer staff could keep their jobs.
