Competing in a four-team tournament with the Downsville Eagles and the Afton Knights in Downsville, N.Y., the Family Foundation School Falcons brought home the first place trophy.

On December 29 and 30, the Falcons added two wins to their record bringing them to an overall 4-2.

In their first game against the Eagles, the Falcons came out on top 41-37 with a great deal of help from Danny R., the Falcons’ leading scorer of the night.

The Falcons scored 20 points in the first half while the Eagles trailed by two in a very close game. The Falcons’ forward Will M. contributed six points.

The Falcons turned on the heat in the third quarter by scoring 15 points. Khalfani M. dropped six points in the third quarter along with Henry W. who also pitched in with six.

Towards the end of the fourth quarter, Danny was fouled. Sinking both of his foul shots, the Falcons remained ahead 41-37, the final score of the game.

The Falcons brought the same intensity back the following night in their game against the Knights of Afton.

It was the championship game, and the Falcons wasted no time in the first half. “Going into the game, I wasn’t cocky, I was just confident we would win,” said Will.

The Falcons scored 17 points in each of the first two quarters, giving them a nine point lead going into the second half.

The Knights had outscored the Falcons in the third quarter with help from their leading scorer of the night, Adam Rupkas, who had 12 points in the game. However, the Falcons were still up 44-37 at the end of three.

The Falcons came out on top with an overall score of 60-43. Danny was the leading scorer once again, with 21 points.

“Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work hard,” said Assistant Coach Larry Patrisso.
