Admissions
In the months of December and January The Family Foundation School welcomed 21 new families (7 families in December and 14 families in January).
Jeff Brain, Vice President of External Affairs and Acting Director of Admissions, traveled to KALO, a residential treatment center in St. Louis, Missouri, to visit a prospective student and help with his transition to FFS.
During the month of December, The Family School hosted a visit from five educational consultants, members of the New York Boarding School Association, who toured FFS.
Middle States
The Middle States Planning Team is pleased to report that the entire Self-Study of The Family Foundation School is finished. This document is over 200 pages in length, and is required as part of the Middle States accreditation process. One of the last things the team finished was a document called “The Profile of the Graduate,” which is a list of attributes that all FFS graduates should possess.
The team is now in the final stretch of the accreditation process. In the next month, the team along with Internal Coordinator, Jason Garnar, will make sure the entire school curriculum is organized and cataloged. The official accredidation visit will be February 23-26.
Administrative Affairs
The Family Six boys are moving to a new dorm. Their old dorm is becoming the temporary home of dog training. The trailer will contain crates for the dogs and space for the dog trainers to keep their clothes and equipment.
Nanci Newcomb has returned to Family Three and over the next year the family will be making a slow transition from Susan Runge to Newcomb as the family counselor.
Student government is going to be working with the students and administration to bring back the old idea that boredom is bad for recovery. Rita Argiros, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, said, “Administration would like to partner with student government to revitalize the culture of FFS.” The spring campaign theme for the school is going to be “Back to the Basics” and the administration is looking for a renewal in terms of looking at the steps, prayer, slogans, exercise, and sponsorship.
Performing Arts
The chorus and show choir are preparing for their annual competition in the North American Music Festival; the drama department is preparing to put on a play in march; and the chorus is preparing for a music and dance performance in april. Preparations consist of choosing and ordering costumes, designing sets, and planning plots for the two school-hosted performances and the international competition.
