Laura S.
Class of June ‘04
From a freshman high school dropout, to a senior valedictorian when she left The Family Foundation School, Laura S. continues to find success in her life. Four short years later she graduated from New York University in May of 2008, with a major in instrumental performing.
Laura is currently living in Brooklyn, New York, with her friend, Daniel, of four years. Together they are patiently, but excitingly, awaiting the arrival of their baby boy. Even though they are aware of the baby’s sex, they’d rather keep their name choices a secret. He is due on June 22.
Following up on experience Laura has in church choir while she was a student at FFS, she currently works performing as a freelance musician. Every Sunday Laura performs in a professional church choir at the University Parish of St. Joseph in Greenwich Village, New York.
She has two goals for the near future: to have a healthy delivery and to find a balance between work and family time. She describes her relationship with her family as “great.” Her excited, soon-to-be-an-aunt sister, Lena, lives only six blocks away from her, and her mother lives in Texas, but visits often.
Laura has not had too many difficulties since leaving and she tries to practice a principled lifestyle. It seems to her as though everything has fallen into place. “It’s important to take what you can from FFS, apply it, and take out the rest,” commented Laura. Another thing she finds important is to be an adult and to follow goals that you set for yourself.
