Gregg H.

Class of June ‘97

Numerous things have changed since Gregg H. was a student at The Family Foundation School. While he was a student, the chapel that is now used every day was still under construction, and he helped several other students and staff members build it. Also when Gregg was a student, the basketball team was new; this is because he and some friends started the team. “We wanted something to do,” said Gregg, “We talked, the parents talked, and before we knew it, we had a team.” The basketball team was at first a club team and then it became what FFS sees now as a part of Section IX. Gregg brought his love for sports home with him; he has been coaching football, basketball and little league baseball for children ages 6–12 for eight years. “It keeps me active,” he remarked about coaching.

“At the very least you are earning an awesome education and you learn so many skills you won’t learn in normal high school,” commented Gregg. At FFS he learned things like how to cook, leadership skills, carpentry, and more.

His advice for any student leaving in the near future is to “relax; take a week to acclimate back to normal life. Get yourself on a schedule. Keep your day filled with things you like to do.” While you’re here he said that the best thing to do is to get as much as you can out of everything offered.

One year after leaving FFS, in April of 1998, Gregg enlisted in the United States Army. During his journey in the army he was an infantry soldier, meaning he was trained to be a front line man. He describes his army experience as “awesome.”

Gregg now lives in Walden, New York with his grandfather. He spends his time taking care of his grandfather and works for a small company. The company he works for is a freelance company that does odd jobs mostly dealing with electricity. He and his coworkers travel anywhere to get the job done, but mostly stick to Orange, Rockland and Ulster Counties.
