Eric K.
December Class of 2008
Just three months ago Eric K. was a work-study student coming up on graduation. He is now at college surviving the world at large. He said that “leaving is no big thing; you just have to do what’s right.”
He did struggle with old people, places and things when he first went home. To overcome these struggles he kept in touch with sober Family Foundation School alumni and Marywood College students.
Another thing that has helped Eric a great deal is God. “My spiritual life is good. I try to go to church every week and I pray a lot,” said Eric. He even enjoyed Mass on his visit back to the school. Eric said, “When I struggle with thoughts of God not being in my life, I try to just stand back and observe how he works in others’ lives.”
Eric now attends college at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa. His major is in criminal justice. When he isn’t in class, he participates in sober activities such as boxing, going to meetings and spending time at the gym. Eric is employed at the Hilton Hotel in Scranton, Pa. where he is a waiter and a banquet composer.
Eric advised his friends coming up on leaving to “keep busy when you leave to stay out of trouble.” For the newcomer he suggested to “be honest and comply.”
