“Get connected right away,” said December 2008 alumnus Andre G. He was back for one day and it felt overwhelming for him at first, but as he got back into the groove, he felt as though he was back from a home visit.
Andre is attending SUNY Stony Brook in Stony Brook, N.Y. Upon leaving he first struggled with fitting back into the “real world,” as opposed to the structure at The Family Foundation School. However, what made the difference was that through it all he kept going to meetings and talking with his sponsor and other program people. Living in New York City is difficult because there are many temptations for a young sober person. “You have to know what you want and have a support system set up for when you leave,” advised Andre.
