Three Skits About Love

The audience was full of laughs and giggles as the Family Players hit the stage on both March 20 and March 21.

Chagrin d’Amour (the embarrassments of love) was the title of the performance chosen and directed by Sid Parham, Vice President of Academic Affairs at The Family Foundation School. It consisted of three one-act comedies representing the struggles that one faces in both love and lust.

In “Here We Are”, by Dorothy Parker, Ted W. and Emily M. gave a comical view of what newly-wed life is like. The skit took place on a train heading to New York City where a newly-wed couple intends to spend their honeymoon. But, this couple does not see the “honeymoon stage” of their marriage and they jump right into arguing as if they had been married for years.

Philip D. and Lavinia L. performed a piece showing how love can sometimes lead you to insanity in “A Marriage Proposal” by Anton Chekov. Philip comes to ask for the hand of Lavinia in marriage from her father played by Ali L. They start up a pride-driven conflict over the rightful owner of “Oxpen Field” and who had the better dog. The couple still ends up married after Philip literally has a heart attack.

“Apollo de Bellac” by Jean Giraudoux, starring Nadine N. and David K., showed the shortcoming of men: their need for approval from women. Nadine is mentored by Dave who plays Apollo, the god of love, on how to get what she wants with the cliché compliment,
