Family Foundation School staff member Jason Garnar led his team to another victory this year in the four-on-four March Madness basketball tournament held at The Family School on March 29.

He overpowered Christian H.’s team in the championship game and was the leading scorer despite an early injury to his ankle in the first game of the tournament.

There were 18 teams competing in the tournament. The final game came down to the Wildcats, consisting of team captain Christian, John I., Nate S., and Ben B. facing up against the Demon Deacons with team captain, Jon H., Garnar, Sean S., and Kyle S..

The Demon Deacons won the championship game by one point. “It was an exciting event. We worked very hard and we won every game, but Christian’s team was a difficult team to face. They made good passes, good shots, and they were very quick on their feet,” said Demon Deacons captain Jon H.

The tournament replicated the NCAA college basketball March Madness tournament, with some slight differences.

Students signed up for the event, and were then drafted by one of the 18 team captains.

After the teams were made, the team captains picked their team name out of a hat with various college basketball team names in it.

It was a double elimination tournament, meaning that each team had at least two games to play. If they lost two games, they were out.

FFS students enjoyed their not-so-average Sunday.

“It was exciting being involved in the tournament.  I didn’t do very well, but the outcome was very good for everyone,” said Tom S.
