Steven Z.
Class of June 2002
Steven Z. is a June ‘02 Family Foundation School graduate, who, despite having his fair share of struggles while attending FFS, is now serving as a Marine in Afghanistan.
After attending FFS for 18 months, Steven walked. He lived at the YMCA in Binghamton for about nine months before he found his bottom. He returned to FFS for another 18 months, and graduated as an almost-21 year old.
Steven’s mother, Linda Z., said, “He has no regrets for anything because it has brought him to where he is today. He is grateful for where he is today.”
Steven always had an interest in being in the Marine Corps. He applied while still at FFS, but was denied. After graduation, he tried working various jobs and attending college, but nothing seemed to fit. He applied to the Marines again. This time he got in.
He now works as a Marines Bulk-Fuel Specialist. He is responsible for fueling planes, helicopters, and other aircrafts. He is also trained as a fireman to learn how to work with explosions because of gasoline.
Linda Z. says she is “humbled by his commitment to put his life on the line for the American people.”
He has had his struggles since graduation, but still continues to practice service and charity.
