Jon N.

Class of December 2007

Jon N., age 20, is a graduate of the Class of December 2007.

Currently, Jon lives in the dorms at Marywood University with Family School alumni Rob M. and Ian F.

Since Jon graduated, he has been living a healthy, sober lifestyle.  He said that his biggest struggle since leaving The Family Foundation School has been getting honest with himself.  “It’s something that I didn’t really do here [at FFS].  But I didn’t realize it then,” he said.

While he is not at school, Jon spends a lot of time going to meetings and getting involved with other sober people. A good part of his time is also spent playing as the lead guitarist in a hardcore band called CHURCH (Christ Helping Us Reach Cold Hearts).  The band is made up of other sober people and FFS alumni.

Jon said that the most important part of his life now is building relationships with God and sober people.  “It’s been a long process… and it was hard to see that it was important while I was at the school,” Jon shared.

As advice to newcomers in the 12-Step program, Jon said “talk about what’s going on without fear of consequences, and have a relationship with God.  Seriously, I’ve seen so many people relapse because they have no higher power.  It’s important, so really give it a shot.”
