Family Foundation School president and chief executive, Mike Argiros, and Rick Reeve, director of the Family Foundation Inc., sponsored a presentation for the community about the use of blogs and Twitter.

The presentation was held at the Hancock House during a lunch meeting on April 1. Newly elected mayor Celia Vazquez along with Hancock Partners Jerry DaBrescia, Ron DeLuca, Chris Gross, and Russell Bass participated in the meeting. Other members of the Hancock community, Sam Rowe, Town Supervisor; Leonard Sienko; John Mason; Terry Dougherty, HCS Superintendent; and Dorothy Ray also took part in Reeve’s presentation. FFS staff members Ann Kozak, Mike Ducey, and Cindy Ray Argiros accompanied Reeve and Argiros.

The web-based applications that Reeve discussed were blogs and Twitter. A blog is used as a way to spread information through the internet and allow people to comment back on it. Twitter is a web-site that allows users to gain “followers” who track whatever they write. Both of these applications may be used for personal communications, but they may also be used to help advertise a local business or community.

Reeve described his personal use of these online tools as well as his use of them for The Family Foundation Inc.. The purpose of the presentation was to encourage the community and the Hancock Partners to use these internet tools to attract new businesses and tourism for Hancock.
