Time is running out but the money is adding up. The new Lourdes Clinic in Hancock, N.Y., has raised approximately $1.74 million of the $2 million goal with assistance from their matching program and “Shoulder to Shoulder” campaign.
The matching program was a Lourdes Hospital fundraiser designed to match every dollar that was contributed up to $500,000 until March 31. The program was successful in achieving its goal.
The “Shoulder to Shoulder” campaign is designed for people to come together and raise funds for the new building. This campaign has been very successful and is still running.
For the remaining amount of money, Lourdes is relying on donations and contributions from the community of Hancock and other surrounding communities.
Leader of the “Shoulder to Shoulder” campaign and owner of the Hancock Telephone Company, Robert Wrighter, stated, “The people in Hancock are excited. The area has been very supportive.” Wrighter continued, “Everything is a go. We will come up with the $2 million and it will all be finished.”
The demolition of the T & A Hardware building and the Old McGranaghan building will occur sometime in early May and construction for the new clinic will begin over the summer. The estimated time for construction is eight months.
As more money is donated to the project, further construction of the clinic will be permitted.
“I think the project is going very well. The people in Hancock have done an amazing job raising funds,” said Dr. Richard Berg, physician at Lourdes Clinic. “They have done everything they said they would. In a very depressed economy, they raised $1.74 million! It’s amazing.”
With much effort and support, the Town of Hancock is anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new clinic.
