Monopoly and Cranium. Music sessions with your friends. Basketball and Frisbee. Beginner A.A. Meetings and study hall. These are all part of The Family Foundation School activities held each weekday, 8th and 9th period.
For the past month, The Family Foundation School has been reworking the two activity periods in order to keep students engaged.
“It’s [the activity periods] a lot more organized,” explained Chris B., physical education intern.
A sign-up sheet for several different activities is passed around the families during lunch every day.
Depending on the weather, students either go outside to enjoy the various outdoor activities that the school provides or study or play indoors.
“Our goal is to keep the students’ bodies and minds active,” said Athletic Director Bill Musgrove.
Bill Hazen and Tommy Cummings are coordinators for the activity periods, but the administration is encouraging staff to come up with ideas for new activities. “The staff should be directly involved with the kids,” said Musgrove.
In an attempt to recruit new members for his team, Bruce Hutchison, the school’s forensics coach, is trying to make Friday’s Activity A period available for students to sit in on a debate class. Students can learn about and participate in a mock debate and/or speech event to see if they like it.
