The Illusionist

A magician in love can be a dangerous person to interfere with. The Illusionist shows the outcome of this situation in a plot that has the viewer mesmerized by the greatest trick of all until the very last minute.

Edward Norton stars as Eisenheim, a renowned magician in the Austrian Empire. A childhood love affair with a princess named Sophie, played by Jessica Biel, drives him in the quest to make his lost companion his own again.

The movie is for a more mature group of viewers, so I would not suggest seeing it with the kids. It is rated PG-13 but some of the concepts are above the comprehension of a younger viewer. There is one sensual scene, which is not extremely provocative, but would not be appropriate for children.

However, the movie raises a number of questions. How far should one go in pursuing a love affair? When does love turn into obsession? Is love worth false incrimination and even murder?

I give The Illusionist a 10 out of 10 for the great cast, well thought out plot, and its thought provoking storyline. It’s a movie that is worth watching.
