After a successful trip to the North American Music Festival in Hershey, Pa. The Family Singers traveled to Hancock on Saturday, May 23rd to give back to the community and sing “Songs of America” for Hancock’s annual Spring Festival.

The festival, held in the vacant parking lot of the old Great American grocery store, hosted multiple musical talents, a clown, face painting, refreshments, and retail sales. Visitors ranged from small children to resident war veterans. From noon to the early evening the festival was packed.

Evan P., of the mixed and men’s chorus ensembles and the show choir band said, “It was an honor to serve the community.”

The Family Singers, dressed in red, white and blue, performed a few songs from their formal program, including “In These Delightful Pleasant Groves,” “Without a Song,” “Good Old Acapella,” “Sinnuh Man,” and “Nothin’ Gonna Stumble My Feet.”

In addition, they presented the songs from the show choir’s music featured performance, a medley of patriotic pieces of the WWII era with a live band of students and staff.

“It was really upbeat and spontaneous. It wasn’t so put together, and I liked it better that way,” said Mary F., a senior student who came along to support the chorus.

The patriotic songs sung by the show choir were a reminder of those serving overseas for the United States. The audience expressed their appreciation for the performance, which illustrated a sense of pride in the red, white, and blue, by giving each group of the Family Singers a powerful ovation.

“I love singing with the chorus, but it’s especially rewarding when we sing in Hancock. I feel closeness with the other chorus members and with the people of Hancock who come to support us,” said Sarah W.
