Sarah V.’s two homeruns and three RBIs, and Denise T.’s two-hit pitching led the Falcons to an 8-3 victory over Roscoe.
At the top of the first, Denise, the Falcons’ pitcher, had a strong inning striking two batters out and only allowing one run in. Denise allowed no more runs in against Roscoe until the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the first the Falcons’ Kassia B. hit a single, but due to an error by Roscoe’s third base Kelly Darbee, Kassia worked her way to second.
After Kassia, Denise stepped up to the plate and slammed a triple bringing Kassia home. The Falcons’ next batter was Sarah V. who was walked by Roscoe’s pitcher Paige Clancy.
Before the last out of the inning, Denise stole her way home after Roscoe’s catcher Taylor Derantier missed a pitch thrown by Clancy.
Karen S. started the bottom of the second with a walk and stole every base until she got home, making the score 3-1, Falcons.
Sarah scored the only run in the third inning, smacking a hard shot to centerfield far enough to bring herself home, the first homerun hit at home all season.
The bottom of the sixth was when the Falcons really brought the runs in. Alena T. started off by being walked. Following her, Erika C. hit a single and Alena and Erika both stole their way home.
Denise was up next after two players had both struck out; she made it to first. Sarah stood up to the plate next and smacked the ball straight down left centerfield bringing both Denise and herself home, with her second homerun of the game.
Overall the Falcons ended the game 8-3. Denise had ten strikeouts and a RBI. Sarah hit two homeruns and also had a RBI.
Mindy McAndrew, the assistant coach, said, “It’s nice to see the girls come together and play as a team.”
