Denise T. and Sarah V. hit back-to-back triples in the 3rd inning, boosting the Family Falcons to a season-ending 6-4 victory over the Eldred Yellow Jackets.

The previous week the Falcons faced off against Eldred with a playoff berth on the line. Unfortunately, the Falcons came up short, losing 10-9. Second baseman Joslyn P. said, “We got over confident in the first game against Eldred and stopped playing together as a team…[this time] we decided that we were going to play as a team, have fun, and end our season with a win.”

Despite getting off to a rough start by allowing two runs in the top of the first inning, the Falcons quickly regained their composure in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs. Three walks by the Eldred pitcher and key base running by Joslyn P. and Sarah V. brought in the runs.

The Falcons held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for three innings, but in the fifth inning it looked as if the Yellow Jackets started to make a comeback, adding two runs to their score. Falcon pitcher Denise brought the Yellow Jacket’s rally to a standstill, striking out the final batter.

Denise’s strikeout gave the Falcons the momentum they needed for the 6th and 7th, as they ended the game with back-to-back, three-up-three-down innings.

Head coach Missy Dunlap said, “This year was a successful year for the Lady Falcons after starting the season with two returning starters and one alternate…we were able to beat a Class C school twice and held most of our other competitors close.”

Although the Falcons finished the season with a 5-12 record, they walked off the field for the last time with their heads held high. Sarah V. said, “I think we ended the season really well; we played our hardest, and I am glad about the outcome of the final game.”
