One Last Night Out For FFS Seniors

July 13, 2009

With graduation day in sight, the June 2009 graduates headed to Moosic, Pa., home of the Scranton Yankees, for pizza, baseball, fireworks, and one last night out together.

The June graduates were accompanied by staff members Chris Stein, Nanci Newcomb, Donna Broce, Jan Cheripko, Bill Cordts, and Natalya Kuchukov. Cordts prepared the buffet table with pizza, breadsticks, and soda.

The group’s hopes for a great ball game were realized. The Yankees and the Chiefs battled back and forth, staying within one run of the other for the first four innings. Then the Yankees pulled away from the Chiefs on a towering homerun by first basemen Juan Miranda.

It was easy sailing from that point on for the Yankees, ending the game with a 8-3 victory. Meanwhile the FFS spectators had a great time doing the “wave” and cheering on staff members Jan Cheripko and Bill Cordts who both caught foul balls.

When the game was over, the graduates sat tight, waiting for the fireworks show. For the next twenty minutes, the sky lit up in what staff member Chris Stein described as “the best fireworks show I’ve ever seen.”

FFS student government president, Megan R., Stein, and Broce were primarily in charge of putting the senior trip together.

Megan R.  said, “It was really cool to be able to have one last night together with the people that I’ve grown up with and am graduating with.” With good weather, awesome food, and great energy from the graduates, the June 2009 senior trip was a roaring success.
