Livening Up The Community With Song

Paul Geer, the Family Foundation School choral director, used the bus ride from Hancock to Delhi to announce the day’s order of events and the music lineup to the FFS chorus. The Family Singers were to make their big appearance at the Delhi Senior Community.

Their performance livened up an audience of over 80 people, both residents of the senior community and residents of the surrounding area.

The senior community houses citizens over 62 years of age with an income of less than $17,700 a year. It used to be a college dorm but was renovated in 1993-1999 to serve as apartments for the elderly.

This was the second consecutive year that Lois Ray, president of the board of the center, invited the chorus to perform for their seniors and the surrounding community. “We appreciate you guys coming up and giving us a program,” said Ray.

Despite the nippy weather, the singers were as enthusiastic as ever when they put on the award-winning show from North American Music Festival (NAMF).

The only difference between the performances was that the chorus did not dance when singing the show choir songs in Delhi. They also added popular FFS graduation song “Many Gifts” to the program.
During intermission, the choral ensemble was treated to Schwan’s ice cream and candy, and cold water by the seniors.

As they enjoyed the treats, they visited with members of the audience. Eleanore Reed, who has heard FFS performances said, “You did a fine job, you always do, and I taught music for thirty years.”
When asked what she thought of this show, Reed said, “The performance was tremendous, excellent; and I wouldn’t say so if it wasn’t. He [Paul Geer] does a tremendous job.” Reed graduated from the same college as Geer.

As the chorus enjoyed a Buffet dinner at Pizza Hut, they agreed that the performance was exceptional, judging by the grins on the faces of the audience members, their enthusiasm, and their bustling conversation.
