July and August were months of change for all of the houses, especially Lake House. With a new semester and more students and staff, Lake House, which resulted from the combination of families 2 and 3, seems to be adjusting quite well to all of the changes.
“I feel very good about the merger. With added students, the blended family has a wider variety of personalities, making it more alive, creative, and dynamic,” said Susan Runge, Director of Counseling and an avid participant in Lake House activities.
Most of the students of Lake House seem to agree with Runge. “I think that the combination of Families 2 and 3 to form Lake House has been a really smooth transition and that it’s giving us an opportunity to make new friendships and has created Twelve Step opportunites,” said Brett K. of Lake House.
During the first two weeks of July, family leaders Chris Stein and Audra Towsley, were on vacation. “We certainly missed them and their experience and presence in the family, but we have a lot of good staff like Susan Runge and Paul Geer who were previous family leaders,” said Lake House staff member, Jason Garner. “The staff are learning to work together and find ways to communicate across their various schedules,” he said.
Although some of the students do not particularly agree with the changes, other students appear to be stepping up. Ignacio A., Kaitlyn B., Ted M., Diego N., Nadine N., Joslyn P., Lexi S., Denise T., and Aaron Z. are all very active elements of Lake House who keep the family strong.
