A Well-Earned Rewared

What started out looking like a cloudy day for a pool party ended up being sunny and beautiful and full of fun for Talbot House from the Family Foundation School.

A pool party, held at Mike and Cindy Argiro’s house, was the second place prize in the school’s House competition (see pages 10 and 11 for more on the competition). After breakfast, Talbot House walked down to the Argiros household to loud music, a basketball court, and an outdoor pool all reserved for their day of fun.

After the rules were laid out for the day, the students set out to jump in the heated pool where a game of Marco Polo immediately began; others played basketball. Then lunch was announced and pizza, chips, and soda were served. The students took away their plates and relaxed on the sunny hill in Mike and Cindy’s yard.

Chalk was also set out and students Kendra S. and Anais P. tagged the Argiros’s driveway with a great big Talbot House sign. After the party Talbot House circled up around the sign to take a photo. Other girls from the house continued to lie out in the sun and listen to music.

Some of the boys were entertained with the chicken coop that Mike and Cindy own. Cindy was nice enough to turn off the electric fence and let students Liam M., Kevin D., and Brendan O. try to catch the chickens. The electric fence was probably the main attraction of the day. When the boys found out that if you held on to it a small electric current would shock you, the whole family decided to create a current chain by holding hands. It’s amazing what some people find funny and exciting.

Others used the day to run around and get some exercise. Students kicked soccer balls around and tossed a football back and forth, and even some of the girls joined in the fun, while the musical talents of the house, Nick P. and Evan P., sat on a picnic table and played guitars.

For six hours the students of Talbot House found themselves on a relaxed vacation and discovered the rewards of hard work.
