In May, the middle school students at the Family Foundation School launched a service project, which involved collecting the metal tabs from soda cans for charity. After a couple of months, the students had collected 62,100 can tabs from FFS and the surrounding community.
The students will be donating the can tabs to The Ronald McDonald House Charities in Scranton, Pa. sometime this month. The Ronald McDonald House recycles the tabs and uses the money to pay for food and lodging for families who are visiting their children in the hospital. They may also help pay some of the hospital fees.
The trip to Scranton to deliver the tabs will include a tour of the facilities. “The students did a really good job with the collection,” said Diane Geer, middle school teacher. “It’s important to do these sorts of things and help someone else out.” Geer organized the project as part of a living skills class in May.
The middle school will be holding another collection in the weeks to come. Geer would like to thank everyone for their support and their participation in the collection.
