A key part of the recovery process is discovering our true colors hidden beneath the darkness on the surface. At the Family Foundation School we embrace opportunities to explore our creative sides. In the coming months Robin Ducey will be offering a new course that teaches kids to unleash their creativity and get in touch with the artist within themselves.

The purpose of the class’ is to show people that there is an artist in every person. “If you aren’t making art, you are making trouble,” said  Ducey, at the beginning of the class.

From hands-on experience of going through school, Ducey has learned that school stresses studying, SATs and college (left side of the brain), while it doesn’t stress the creativity within every student(right side of the brain).

She feels that without an equal balance between the left and right side, of the brain, someone cannot be truly happy, spiritually and mentally.

Ducey was an art major in college. In the back of her mind she always knew that the artistic side kept her happy. About nine years ago, Robin was diagnosed with cancer. The part of her that was artistic was pushed aside due to the stress and activities of her everyday life.

She came to realize that life wasn’t the same when she wasn’t expressing herself. Then Ducey started to meditate, and she came upon the idea that she should start painting again. From that point on she continued her artistic life, and life improved for her.

Through the creativity class Ducey hopes to bring out the artistic side in children with her experience, strength, and hope. She hopes that one day the class will be offered as a course in school.
