As the final days of summer approach, “The Family Players” have been busy tuning their voices, sharpening their dance moves, and preparing memorable sets and costumes. The fall 2009 musical, “My Favorite Year,” is right around the corner. The twenty-nine person cast is working hard to put on a spectacular performance.
Set in 1954, “My Favorite Year” takes place on the set of a popular comedy show. Benji Stone, a freshman writer on the show is assigned to “babysit” alcoholic guest star Allen Swan, after he shows up to a rehearsal drunk. The efforts to keep Swan sober for all rehearsals and the performance is a task that Benji underestimates, but along the way he catches a glimpse into the superstar’s broken heart. Paul P., who stars as Benji in the musical, is enjoying playing the part. It was a lot of fun, I felt like it was made for me,” he said. “ In addition to Benji Stone and Allen Swan, the show is filled with juicy roles, show-stopping song and dance numbers, happy endings, and is a must see for all” says Thomas Kovaleski.
Kovaleski, Performing Arts Department Chairperson at the Family Foundation School, is in charge of the production’s choreography. He has been working with the cast at rehearsals throughout the weeks; dancing, singing, and running lines. “Like every show here, you have a few bumps in the road, but I am very pleased. The cast is doing a super job and will be more than brilliant in performance.”
