Father Stephen Morris, Dean of Students at the Family Foundation School as well as a priest for thirty years, will be leading compline, Sunday night prayer, for the students.
Father Stephen began offering Mass at the school fifteen years ago and introduced compline as a weekly prayer gathering. Though after several years the students took over leadership, they didn’t change much, except for a few melodies.
Father Stephen is glad to have the opportunity to speak to the students on Sunday at compline and Wednesday at Mass. He plans on using this time to address certain issues at the school and said that he will be leading compline for the rest of the summer and fall.
“I’m not delusional. I don’t think everyone agrees with what I say or likes me for it, but that’s okay, some things have to be said. I’m bored with priesthood that doesn’t put itself out there.” Father Stephen plans on changing compline from the traditional form. Instead of singing psalms and the Song of Simeon, compline will consist of singing a hymn, a reading from the scriptures and some thoughts and observations of things going on at the school.
Although much may be learned in compline, there will be some people who won’t take it in. “It’s the end of a long Sunday, many of us are tired, more than a few of us are bummed out that there is school tomorrow; they may not be keen on listening, but some want to hear,” said Father Stephen .Hopefully, those who are praying and listening, will carry the message to the rest of the school.
