After a three-week absence from the Family Foundation School, Father Stephen returned refreshed and spiritually invigorated.
Father Stephen, who underwent painful back surgery, had been on bed-rest at his Pennsylvania home. He could barely move for two weeks, but still managed to write letters to students at school.
In his absence, beloved former staff member Terry McCarthy led Wednesday morning Communion services and Paul Geer led Sunday night compline. Though the students missed Father Stephen, they were also glad to welcome back Terry. “I thought it was good that Terry came back because I really pay attention to the things he has to say. I miss him a lot,” said Matt W.
A group of students, anxious for Father Stephen’s recovery, spent one Friday night visiting him at his home with Tommy Cummings and America Restaino.
“It was so good to see him,” said Karen S. “He could barely walk but he was still so glad to see us.”
Father Stephen’s message after returning was the product of the careful reflection he did while recovering from his surgery. He discussed some main points: lust, human relationships, respect for the Virgin Mary.
Since returning Father Stephen has resumed Wednesday morning Mass and Sunday night compline, as well as his Thursday night seminar on Shane Claiborne’s Irresistible Revolution.
