Administration
FFS has hired a new Health office Director. Robin Morgan-North, RN, started the job on September 28. She was chosen over several applicants for the position. Welcome, Robin! A meeting of the girls and female staff took place this month to discuss rebalancing the girls throughout the families. Some houses have as few as five girls and others as many as ten. Dorm inspections also kept staff busy this month.
Admissions
FFS welcomed eight new families in September and hopes that the new students will adjust well to their new environment. Sandra Bickhold, an educational consultant from Connecticut, along with Mary Ella Markowitz, a psycotherapist, visited the school. They were given a tour and met with Jeff Brain, Director of Admissions.
Athletics
James “Willy” Williamson has been named the new Athletic Director for FFS. “It’s something new for me, and it’s a lot of work. I am lucky to have good staff to help me,” said Williamson. He said he welcomes the challenge and has been busy with his coaching duties for the boys soccer team. He has also been actively engaged in obtaining eligibility for some of the students. “To see the players working hard at something is very rewarding,” said Williamson about both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams. “Sports are very important here. It gives [the students] something to be involved in, something that most of them have totally forgotten about.” Both soccer teams have gotten off to a great start. Williamson’s next job is to start focusing on the upcoming basketball season.
Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Department would like to thank the cast and crew of the musical for a wonderfully successful performance of “My Favorite Year.” Rehearsals are now beginning for the holiday performance that is set for December. The chorus is also preparing to perform again with Tim Janis in a concert that will be recorded for PBS station WMHT in Albany, N.Y.
Maintenance
The Maintenance Department is continuing work on the new girls’ dormitory. Ed Anderson, Maintenance Superintendent, said he hoped to have the girls move in sometime in January. The department has also been busy “buttoning everything up” for winter and working on the bathrooms in the boys’ dorms. It has also been keeping the soccer field mowed and ready for games.
