After June graduation, the students of the Family Foundation School were given a week off school to relax and get accustomed to their “new” families. Kurt Hock, head of the activities committee, put together a fun-filled week with laser tag, a Fourth of July barbeque and several fun-filled trips. These included Dorney Park; the movies in Hancock; and The Cowlick for some great ice cream.
Dorney Park was the most popular activity of the summer. Dorney Park is an amusement park with many rides that came very close to “knocking a few students’ socks off.” Alex R. said, “I was so scared on the ride Vortex, I almost cried.” Families one, three, five, and seven went one day and families two, four, and six the next.
The July 4th barbeque was a day filled with a DJ playing music, swimming in the pond, playing volleyball, and just relaxing in the sun. The day started with patriotic table painting, followed by chalk drawing. Later there was a barbeque. After lunch there was a competition in which students fought to pull a greased watermelon out of the pond, followed by a massive water balloon war.
Everyone got soaking wet and had a blast. Later the students watched the movie “Independence Day” in the gym.
