The month of September has been eventful for Smith House with the addition of new students and the departure of five family members.
As the school realized the imbalance in the number of girls per House, many ideas for changes were put forth. After careful consideration, Smith House said goodbye to Karen S. and Sarah B., two strong senior girls, who were transferred to Talbot House.
Aleta Kahn, Sarah’s senior sponsor, also made the switch to Talbot House.
During the chaos of the moves, Shannon G. received the news that she was being taken out. It was difficult for the students to say goodbye to yet another member of their family.
To balance the tumultuous events of the month, many positive changes were made regarding the responsibility of the students. Cajai F. received the responsibility of junior sponsoring and was also offered the position of dorm leader.
Jason D. also received buddying and shadowing inside and outside of the house.
Jens J. got a buddy, Johnny C., a 17 year old from North Carolina.
Additionally, Mike R., started a compost for the gardens around the middle school and other places on campus.
All in all, Smith House has a lot of adjusting to do. They are keeping an open discussion on how to maintain unity and get through a troubling time.
