Family School Reevaluates Students’ Looks & Books

Recently the students and staff at the Family Foundation School noticed that the dress code had become slack. At the same time they realized that the students’ choice of reading material was not always appropriate for The Family School. After several meetings between administration and staff, the decision was made to do a thorough check of all clothing items and books in the students’ possession.

The school day started with a meeting in the gym. The students were told that they were going to spend the morning in the dorms sorting through their clothes, with staff supervision, and deciding what was “Family School appropriate” and what was not. While this was going on, a book committee would decide what books students should and should not be reading here.

In reality there was no change in the dress code. The day was a start to enforcing it better. Many students were concerned before this that the dress code was not being followed fairly throughout the school, and they were under the assumption that the dress code was different from house to house.

Principal Ann Janauer and Academic Vice President Sid Parham agreed that the day was very successful. They were very pleased with the positive reactions from the students. “My point of view is that it’s too early to measure, but the signs are good,” said Parham.
