Basketball tryouts at The Family Foundation School have just begun.
Head coach of the boys’ team Ted Towsley, and assistant coach Larry Patrisso have held four tryouts and are planning on holding two more to decide who will make the team.
The first tryout consisted of 27 boys; however, four weeks later, only 21 showed up for the fourth practice. The tryouts are very rigorous and require one to be physically as well as mentally disciplined.
“I look for players who are teachable and are able to take constructive criticism,” said Patrisso. “I want somebody who is a go- getter who wants to improve and a guy who wants to be a team player.
Former players from the ‘08-’09 season, Pat C., Austin C., Khal M., and Henry W., helped with some of the drills and gave some advice for the guys trying out.
Twenty-two girls showed up to the FFS gym on October 10. Head Coach, Carlton Williams and Assistant Coach, Missy Dunlap, started the tryouts with stretches, followed by a series of drills that dealt with rebounding, passing, and shooting.
Last year, the team was not as successful as they were in years before, but Williams hopes that this year, the girls will win more games than they lose and learn more about themselves through the game of basketball. “I hope for a team that will persevere, stay together, and be able to stay open-minded,” said Williams.
The coaches are planning on taking 12-15 players, with three of them being alternates, as well as two managers.
