Heather G.
Class of June ‘09
Heather G. came to The Family Foundation School on December 21, 2007. She arrived very angry and had abused both substances and her parents. Heather was put in what was formerly Family Eight and had a hard time dropping old ideas. She didn’t start doing work until Donna B. became her sponsor. After switching to former Family Five she began to give back and open her mind to what people were saying to her. She had a hard time being willing, but began to give people’s advice a chance.
Heather was involved in chorus, soccer, show choir, and yearbook during her stay. She worked in the kitchen during her last six months and received a diploma in June. After leaving, she had a hard time and got involved in a relationship too soon. She lost money, time, and self-esteem. After three months, she got back on track and is hanging out with supportive friends to help her stay sober and sane.
Heather spends time hanging out with friends, going to the movies, and shopping. She attends Hunter College and is working at Starbucks. She is making up for lost time and trying to help people where she can. “Towards the end I did not want to be here at all. But I think about this school every day and if you think you want to leave just remember: life is hard, both here and in the ‘real’,” she said.
