Alumni visit from the Class of 2000

December 12, 2009

Chris J. arrived at the Family Foundation School on July 1, 1998.  He was 16 years old and living a life invested with drugs and alcohol.  He knew he was an alcoholic but could never figure out how to work the program.  So much for keeping it simple, right?

Throughout his stay Chris experimented with defiance by running away and causing mischief with alumnus and current staff Dane. B. “I ate a lot of tunafish back in those days,” said Chris, referring to the former sanction for not eating your food.

After finally giving the program a shot, Chris experienced much success and happiness.  He now has twelve years of sobriety and was recently married.

As an EMT in the South Bronx, Chris lives the 12 steps every day by helping to save others.  He occupies his time by staying active with hobbies such as working out and amateur boxing.  He spends a lot of time with his daughter and friends, but his top priority is attending meetings and living the program.  His advice to students is to follow the program because it is the only thing that has given him sobriety.
