The Family Foundation School Holds Its Second Extracurricular Day

Banners were strung up, snacks were laid out, and new interests were discovered at The Family School’s second Extracurricular Day. The event was first held last semester to increase student participation in many activities the school has to offer. A few students from each activity set up booths in the gym and displayed pictures, handed out information, and even demonstrated their favorite activities.
The golf team, with coach Mike Allen, set up a net for students to test their driving skills. They also offered a putting and chipping challenge. At Pete Jacques’s fly-fishing station, students got a chance to hook a stuffed fish off the ground while learning the intricate technique of a perfect cast. Caren Jacques exhibited her talents with yarn as she worked on a huge, colorful blanket for the Shepherd’s Knitting Circle. All this went on with musical accompaniment by student musicians promoting Paul Geer’s music lessons and music theory class. Various bongo players provided the beat and the rhythm for the piano, violin, guitar, and harmonica players who created the day’s soundtrack.
Kurt Hock ran the popular cake walk, during which students were called up by family to compete for Tasty Cakes and Twinkies. The cake walk ended with a round just for graduates, which was the highlight of the day for them.
The International Club has baked cinnamon coated churros and delicious chocolate chip cookies for students to enjoy as they perused the exhibits.
Overall, the day provided to be a huge success. Many students found interest in activities they had not previously considered. Student government President Lexi S. said, “The day exceeded my expectations.” She hopes the tradition will be continued every semester in the years to come.
