Overall, Smith House did very well last month. The biggest struggle they had was when a senior member came up for several dishonesties. “The negative behaviors influenced others poorly; it was disappointing because they are supposed to be role models,” said family leader Caren Jacques. The disclosure led to a “Big 10” being held on Saturday, November 21.

On November 6 through 9, two young men, Jens J. and Josh K. went to the Mt. Savior Monastery in Pine Hill, N.Y. with the boys retreat. The next weekend Cajai F. and Larissa A. were part of the girls retreat.

Getting a fresh start in Smith House this month were Turner L. and Chris L. from Wilson and Mann House, respectively. Mariah L. moved to Lake House. Matthew B. arrived mid-month and is starting to get involved in life in the family.

Chris L., Pierce S., Nicole K., Rylee B., and Amanda W. have all received junior sponsoring privileges and/or new junior sponsees. Drew L. stepped up and received buddying and shadowing.

Jacques said that the house was really looking forward to the holidays. Eight staff opted to work on Thanksgiving and had a great time eating dinner and spending time with Smith House.

Smith House has four people graduating: Sean C., Rosie E., Paul M., and John R. All got into college. Sean got into his first choice, Winthrop University; John is planning on going to Morris County Community College; Paul is headed for University of Louisiana at Monroe; and Rosie is going to Northeastern University.

Smith house is in pretty good shape overall.  “We don’t worry much about what’s going to happen to the family after graduation. The family should be in good shape.” said Jacques.
