The Family Foundation School Administration
The Administration has been busy this month coming up with plans to help students raise their grades, and also with alternatives to the daily menu items. Family Foundation School Principal Ann Janauer announced a new peer tutoring program which began this month. It allows students who are struggling in a particular subject to go to the library and receive help from fellow students who are excelling in that subject. Meanwhile, the kitchen is working on vegetarian menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner as an option for students who prefer not to eat meat.
Admissions
FFS welcomed six new families in November. Jeff Brain, Director of Admissions and Vice President of External Affairs, along with other administrative board members, attended an I.E.C.A (Independent Educational Consultants Association) conference this month in Charlotte, N.C. Members of I.E.C.A work with parents to find appropriate schools and programs (such as FFS) for children with special needs. The conference gives FFS a chance to meet with the consultants and inform them about the school.
Athletics
The Athletic Department has been busy this month with the start of basketball season. Both the girls and boys had their first scrimmages and games this month. The girls lost their first game 41-50, but won their second, 54-49. The boys were defeated in their first game 74-34. Athletic Director James “Willy” Williamson is proud of both teams and believes this will be a great season.
Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Department has spent the month preparing for the Winter Performance, a musical version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, entitled “A Dickens of a Christmas.” The show also includes a number of extra dances and choral arrangements. Tom Kovaleski, Director of Performing Arts, is also beginning to prepare for the North American Music Festival in Hershey, Pa. this coming spring.
Maintenance
Maintenance is still busy working on the new girls’ dormitory and hopes to complete it in January. They also have made electrical improvements in staff housing and improvements in the wastewater treatment plant.
