It has been a tradition to have a staff vs. student softball game a few days prior to graduation in June. However, because of the cold weather it would be impossible to have a softball game during the winter, so several of the December 2009 graduates got together to play a basketball game against the staff before departing.
The game was held in The Family Foundation School gym on Sunday, December 6. The students won the game 65-53, but it was not as easy as many of them assumed it would be. The game started with an unfortunate injury on the students’ team. Pat C. fell early in the first quarter and dislocated his finger.
Some of the staff members also did some secret recruiting. They brought back old staff members like Chris (Nico) Nicodemo, Dan Patrisso, Dee Gill, and Pat Simmons. None of the students had expected this, but it allowed for a hard fought battle between the teams. “The game was pretty close for the first three quarters and then youth and stamina took over,” said staff member Scott Cole.
The game provided the house with an out-of-the-ordinary, but exciting Sunday afternoon.
Although only the graduates and staff were playing, the whole house enjoyed the game as they cheered on both teams from the bleachers.
“The game was awesome. I had a lot of fun. It didn’t matter that we won. I was just really glad to be a part of it,” said graduate Austin C.
