By Pat C.
Joe Voisich of Smithtown Christian lined up to take a direct kick just outside of the 18-yard box with one minute and thirty seconds left in the game. He drilled the ball into the middle of the goal and sent the first round state playoff game between The Family Foundation School and Smithtown Christian into overtime.
The game was played on a chilly November night in Middletown, New York. Brett M. of Smithtown Christian provided the first score minutes into the start. Falcon striker Evan H. answered back with a breakaway goal just moments before the first half ended.
The second half started with a quick goal by Falcon forward, Yves K. putting the Falcons on top 2-1. Neither team was able to score until Voisich added the tying goal with one minute and thirty seconds left sending the game into overtime.
Just minutes into the first overtime period Falcon striker, Blake J., was ejected from the game after he received his second yellow card for a dangerous tackle, but the Falcons hung on through the period.
Three minutes into the second overtime, Smithtown Christian striker, Joe W., took a corner kick and headed the ball past Falcon goalkeeper Kyle F.
The Falcons finished the season with a record of 14-4. Falcons Head Coach, Willy Williamson said, “It was tough to see the season end because we spent so much time together in practice, on the bus, and playing games. I enjoyed working with each and every student, and developing my friendship with Carlton [Williams, the assistant coach]. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to helping the team throughout the season. It was truly a family affair.”
