On December 18th, six students from The Family Foundation School returned to the Youngsville School in NY to join them for their holiday party.

The students had visited the school before Halloween to participate in their Drug Awareness Week and were invited back by Jamie Weiner, a counselor at the school. “They thought it would be cool for us to come and be a part of their holiday party,” said Jeff Brain, head of Admissions at FFS. The students were accompanied by Brain and Iris McClane, who also works in the Admissions Department. As a special holiday treat 11 students in the FFS chorus also tagged along with Paul Geer, Director of Chorus, to play holiday music and sing carols with the students from Youngsville. “They knew about the strength in our music program and were interested and having them sing because their school doesn’t have something like that,” said Brain.

The students from FFS were spread out among the tables at lunch to mingle with the students from Youngsville and to get a picture of what goes on at the school.

After lunch the students from both schools got into the holiday spirit to sing Christmas carols together.

“I really enjoyed going and speaking to the kids. I thought it was a real 12-step experience and it was funny to watch the Youngsville students sing carols with the chorus,” said Ben B., a chorus student who went on the trip.

The day ended with some one-on-one conversation between the students from each school. The students from FFS were able to give back and to share their experience with the students from Youngsville. “My favorite part was being able to spend time and talk to them (Youngsville Students) before they go on break for the holidays,” said Nate S. of Lake House.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Brain. “We were able to bring more kids than last time and allow the students who had been before to reconnect with each other; we will continue to try to get together.”
