Administration
The Health Office has hired a new LPN, Mia Rotundo, who will start the job in February. Welcome Mia! Also, Donna Broce, Compliance Officer, is now tracking The Family Foundation School’s compliance with The Joint Commision (TJC) requirements. Jason Garnar, the college counselor and placement liaison, is moving from the marketing trailer to room 303 to make it easier for students to get to him. Jason spends the majority of his time helping students and their parents with college placements by supporting them in the application process and by interfacing with educational consultants and college admissions departments.
Admissions
FFS welcomed six new families in December and January. In early January a visitor from Timberline Knolls, an adolescent treatment center in Chicago, toured the campus. Jeff Brian, Director of Admissions and Vice President of External Affairs, visited two Second Nature Wilderness programs in Utah whose approaches to recovery are similar to The Family Foundation School. Brain, Rick Reeve, and Sid Parham attended the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs, (NATSAP), in San Diego.
Athletics
The boys and girls basketball seasons are winding down. Athletic Director Willy Williamson believes that, although it has been a tough season for both teams, everyone gave their best effort. Tryouts for golf and softball have begun. Also, the athletic department is preparing for an indoor soccer tournament. More than 40 students have signed up, enough for six teams of seven.
Performing Arts
The Performing Arts Department has begun preparations for the annual spring play. “The Imaginary Invalid” has been chosen, a play in three acts by Moliere. The play is a farce that satirizes the medical profession. It was written to amuse King Louis XIV in Paris around 1673. Director Sid Parham has chosen his cast and is in the beginning stages of rehearsal.
Maintenance
The maintenance department has resumed work on the girls’ dorm, which is now scheduled for completion by the end of February. They are also renovating the former Lake House, which will be the new quarters for Wilson House. In addition, they have been repairing the second shower stall in the Mann House boys’ dorm.
