Behind Family Foundation School guards Nadine N. and Denise T. who combined for 32 points, the FFS Falcons gave the Roscoe Blue Devils a run for their money on December 14 at home as the game went down to the wire, 49-47, Roscoe.

Moments after the tip-off, Roscoe guard Paige Clancy started the scoring in the see-saw battle on a pass from forward Kiela Browne.

Then Sarah V. gave the Lady Falcons some momentum when she blocked Browne on a mid-range shot and gave the Falcons time to reset. “[My block] helped the team get motivated and I believe that we didn’t stop trying, even till the end,” said Sarah. However, the momentum didn’t last long.

Shortly after, Roscoe’s Amanda Ladonchauf tacked another two on the board by taking a mid-range jumper which was preceded by an inbound pass from the sideline from Taylor Devantier. The quarter ended with the score at 15 to 8, Roscoe.

The Falcons came back with a half-court press that bedeviled the Blue Devils, early in the second period and went on a 6-0 run. Nadine stole the ball and scored on a breakaway lay-up. The quarter ended with the score at 26-24, Roscoe.

In the second half the game started to get more physical. There were a lot of jump shots as the teams stretched for the lead. The third quarter ended with the score at 37-32, Blue Devils.

With 1:30 left in the game the score was tied at 47, Falcons’ ball. FFS guard Alyssa C. lost possession after taking a pass from Nadine.

Moments later, Browne got fouled and missed her free throws, but got her rebound and made a lay-up, putting Roscoe ahead by two.

With 37 seconds left, the Falcons were unable to catch up and by the time they fouled to stop the clock there were two seconds left in the game.

“The most important moment of the game was how the girls handled the loss. They did it with their heads held high, smiles on their faces and a sense of accomplishment,” said Head Coach Carlton Williams.
