FFS Students Celebrate the Last Night of Hanukkah in Livingston Manor
By Nicole K.
The last night of Hanukkah was not a quiet night of candle lighting at The Family Foundation School. All of the Jewish students went out to the synagogue Agudas Achim in Livingston Manor for a party to end the Festival of Lights.
The students entered the synagogue and were immediately greeted with cheerful smiles, large plates of pasta, and Hanukkah music playing in the background. The room was decorated in blue and white, and dreidels were scattered across each table.
The students were welcomed by an old friend, former Jewish Studies Director Ellen Singer. The night wasn’t just about laughs and food thanks to Singer, who spoke about the lessons we can learn from the story of Hanukkah. “The Jews believed, and the oil which was only enough to last one day, lasted eight,” Singer said.
She spoke about miracles and the amazing events that can happen if people believe with the same strength the Jews had years ago.
After hearing a strong word from an old friend, the FFS students danced and sang all evening to lively music provided by Cantor Marian Kleinman.
The Hanukkah party was a wonderful way to end the holiday and the spirit of Hanukkah will echo throughout the halls of FFS until December rolls around again.
