Chapel Field Wildcats Tear Up Falcons 51-37
By Josh W.
The Family Foundation School Falcons played the Chapel Field Wildcats, their arch-rivals, at home on January 5. The game ended with a score of 51-37 Wildcats.
The Wildcats started off hot, winning the tip-off and scoring the first basket of the game. However, Family Falcon Isaac M. answered back with two points of his own by driving to the basket. Isaac, who lead the team in points, rebounds, and steals, scored 17 points in the game. The Wildcats answered with six straight points, giving them a lead of 8 to 2. The first quarter ended with the score of 16 to 8, Chapel Field.
In the second quarter the Wildcats defense shut Isaac and his teammates down while their offense kicked into gear, giving them a 10-point unanswered run. The quarter ended with the score of 33-10 Chapel Field.
Falcon guard Evan H. started the second half by taking a charge penalty from Chapel Field guard Danny Menendez. The Falcons took possession of the ball after an out-of-bounds call, and both teams took turns scoring, assuring a hard fought second half.
At the start of the fourth quarter the score was 39-26 Chapel Field. Throughout the rest of the game “both offenses played well. Defense, on the other hand, was a whole other story,” said FFS guard J.T. H.
After three missed shots by the Wildcats, Evan drove to the hoop but missed the layup. Forward Jens J. leaped in the air and outstretching all the other players tipped the ball in to score as the buzzer sounded.
The Falcons fought valiantly, but their effort proved futile against the Wildcats’ fury.
When asked about why the Falcons played better in the second half, Head Coach Ted Towsley said, “During halftime in the locker room, I told them to surrender. My goal is to have them get over the fear of pressure from the start of the game, not just the second half.”
