Administration

The administration has been busy this month creating various activities for the students. The Venture Crew and Dog Training are combining, and the new crew will be led by Rita Argiros, Vice President for Administrative Affairs. On February 23, an assembly was held in the gym to announce that students are now allowed to choose their own sponsors. However, there are certain stipulations (See Choose Your Own Sponsor, Page 6). Also, activity periods have changed and students will now need to make a commitment for a semester to a particular activity. Otherwise, they will have study hall for the last two hours of the school day. A new website, www.PLKR.com, has been created so that parents can see pictures of their children and the photo class can display their photos.

Admissions

The Family Foundation School welcomed three new families in February. In early February Richard Falzone, an adolescent psychiatrist from Maclean Hospital in Boston who works with at-risk teens, visited FFS to learn more about the school. Also, Jeff Brian attended the Association of Student Assistance Professionals (ASAP) conference in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Athletics

Golf and softball seasons are underway at FFS; 41 boys tried out for golf and about 20 girls tried out for softball. The students and staff are anxiously waiting for spring when the new seasons begin. Also, Willy Williamson, Athletic Director, is preparing for the March Madness indoor basketball tournament. Many students are expected to participate.

Performing Arts

The Performing Arts Department is readying for the spring Family Day drama production, “The Imaginary Invalid,” on March 13 and 14. The chorus, show choir, and dance class performers are working in preparation for their North American Music Festival competition and performance in May.

Maintenance

The maintenance department has been continuing to work on the girls’ dorm and is close to completion. New mattresses, which were donated by Frank O., are being set up for the students. Also, the old Mann House is being refurbished and converted into a study hall and Whiting Hall is being painted. The trailers are being fixed up so that when alumni visit, they can stay on campus. In addition, trailer 12 was refurbished so that the Talbot House boys could move in.
