Finally, some fresh air ... FFS students and staff pause for a picture up on one of Jensen's Ledges, enjoying gorgeous views of the Delaware River.
FFS Students and Staff Hike up to Jensen’s Ledges for a Good Time
By Max Z.
Tommy Cummings, a staff member at The Family Foundation School, recently organized another hike for Sunday activity. In the past couple of months, Cummings has been taking Betton House and other students out on hikes around the property, but this was not the usual hike.
Four staff members including Cummings, Willy Williamson, Rita Argiros and Sid Parham accompanied the group of students who boarded the small FFS bus with water bottles, backpacks and two German Shepherds.
They then patiently road to the destination: Jensen’s Ledges. Arriving at the base of the mountain, the group unloaded their things and began the hike up the mountain.
The sun was shining and the snow underfoot crunched as they walked. The movement of their bodies kept them warm, as it was a chilly day. After a time, they reached one of the most stunning ledges. They peered over for an astonishing view of the Delaware River and the forest around it.
After some group photos, they started a fire and cooked hotdogs and heated baked beans. There was not a dull moment as the students and staff surrounded the fire, eating, laughing and sharing conversation.
It wasn’t easy leaving the site, either. The beauty of Jenson’s Ledges in reality defined serenity. “It was nice to take the students off campus, so they can get some fresh air and spend some time in the school’s backyard,” said Cummings. Hopefully more hikes like this one will be planned for the future. One thing’s for sure: memories like these will be cherished.
