Katie B.

Class of June ‘05

I graduated from The Family Foundation School in June 2005. Since then I have been in touch with several staff members but have never written anything for The Family Times. (Embarrassing, considering I slaved over that newspaper for almost two years– Managing Editor, cough cough).

After leaving FFS, I found that many of the same issues resurfaced. I realized I was not cured, but significantly more prepared. While I have and continue to struggle at times, the challenges I’ve overcome make it that much easier to look obstacles in the face and move forward; and with a past like mine, I’m not afraid of anything.

I’ve learned that the power of prayer and ASKING FOR HELP will always right my path. It may seem simple, but these two actions used to be almost impossible for me, and now I swear by them.

I will graduate this May from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. I was also recently offered a position as a family outreach caseworker for an agency just outside D.C., which I will begin right after graduation.

When I’m not in class or working, I spend a lot of time with my friends and family. We just got a new puppy, too, so he has taken up much of my time, as well! I also run, read a lot, and go to hockey games in my spare time. (GO CAPS!)

If it were not for The Family School’s faith in me and continued belief and support, I may not have reached my goals. Overall, I feel happy and free. I miss The Family School sometimes, but I still call my sponsor to share the good and bad.

Thanks for everything, I am eternally grateful.
